What to Expect in Worship
Visiting a new church, or re-connecting after a long while can be uncomfortable and confusing. We will try to help you feel welcome. Here are answers to a few questions that may help you decide whether to visit and help you prepare for a visit.
What kind of church are you?
Epiphany of Christ Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (or ELCA) denomination.
What music do you play or sing?
Worship services include songs, hymns, and worship music from a variety of hymnals and songbooks. We sing sacred Lutheran hymns found in Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the hymnal of the ELCA. Our Accompanist, Kay Johnson, plays our electric organ and piano. Occasionally we have instrumental or vocal soloists or ensembles who provide musical offerings. We have a choir during the winter.
What should I wear?
You are welcome to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable…jacket and tie, suit, shorts, dress, sneakers or flip-flops.
Will I have to stand up and introduce myself?
No. We understand that this makes most people uncomfortable. You will be invited, though not required, to fill out a slip of paper with contact information if you would like us to follow-up on your visit.
Do I have to become a member?
Only if you want to. Throughout the year we offer opportunities to learn about membership for those who want to make the commitment to join the church as a member.
What about Holy Communion?
We celebrate Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and we practice Open Table, everyone is welcome at the table. If you would rather not receive Holy Communion, that is perfectly fine. If you want Holy Communion brought to you because of mobility issues, please tell one of our ushers.
Can I bring kids to worship?
Yes, all ages are welcome.
Do you pass an offering plate?
Yes, an Offering or financial gift is a formal part of the worship service. If you are unable or not inclined to offer a gift, please pass the plate along to your neighbor.
